Packing Hints

Some few rules should be considered when packing your Balikbayan box.

  • Do not overfill your Balikbayan box. The stability of the box suffers. Thus you risk the damage of contents. Containers with liquids are to be secured against leaking, e.g. by pasting over the catch tank with tape and an additional wrapping. If necessary you should insert reinforcement material, on which you place the contents.
  • Avoid a too heavy box. We have suitable lifting devices to move the boxes. However during the collection of the box at your home or during the distribution in the Philippines these are not available. Even if we do not give a weight limit to you, the box must have to be lifted surely by hand. Have a look at the decriptions of picking up your Balikbayan box.
  • Pack the box with commercial tape. Use thereby PVC or PP tapes. If you use fabric-strengthened tapes, paste over these afterwards with a normal PVC or PP tape, so that these do not unroll with a lateral movement of the box and then damage the box by a reduced bearing surface.
  • Use enough tape. E.g. paste the entire lower surface of the Balikbayan box as well as the sides in approx. 5 cm height. This results in a wetness protection for your box. Cheap tapes tear easily. Use branded tapes or test the tape in time.
  • Avoid a tying around the box. This can damage the box. the same might occure if you use wire or metal and/or plastic tapes. The lacing or tape can cut during the transport into your box and damage these. There is also a safety risk for our coworkers.
  • Make carefully a table of contents for each box.
  • Products, for which there are either export restrictions in the Federal Republic of Germany or an import restriction in the Philippines, may not be dispatched. Additionally there are separate regulations for Balikbayan boxes, which are to be considered. We provide a list of the forbidden articles. The consequences during offence go to your loads.
